New Mashable Android app to predict virals of the future

Mashable has revealed a sleek and stylish new Android app, bringing the best of its website to a simple mobile platform.
The company claims that it can predict what is about to go viral before it does, so those with the Mashable app can mop up the kudos of being the first to spread funny and fascinating content among their friends. Here’s a clue – it probably involves a picture of a cat.
The app is premiering exclusively on select Samsung Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note II and Galaxy Tab 3, before being given a full public release next week.
Mashable has developed a new algorithm which it calls Mashable Velocity, capable of scouring the social web to find the articles and internet pages that will dominate your feeds in the near future. The app will then send a notification to Android devices so you’ll never miss a trick.
A post on Mashable’s blog explained: “In much the same way that Velocity helps Mashable‘s human editors know what’s hot on the site, our new Mashable Android app (and our Mashable Velocity for Google Glass app) alert you just before a Mashable story goes viral.”
“With it — and an Android device or a pair of Google Glasses — you know what everyone is talking about on the social web, before they’re talking about it.”
As well as this genius bit of tech, Mashable’s Android app scores points for its beautiful and brilliantly uncomplicated design. The app is both responsive and adaptive, so whether you access it on a mini smartphone or a giant-sized tablet – it’s going to look great.
Owners of any of the Samsung devices mentioned above can download Mashable now viaGoogle Play. Not a Samsung owner? You’ll only have to wait until next week when you can install the app for free – we’d love to know what you make of it.
